MEET NATHALIE
Counseling starts with connection
Hi, I’m Nathalie Potts, a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern (IMH26549) under the supervision of Rebecca Maxwell. I work with adults, teens, and couples.
Before becoming a counselor, I spent 15 years in education. After earning my bachelor’s degree from Florida State University, I worked with preschool, elementary, and high school students, including students in ESE and gifted programs. I spent my final years in education as a preschool director. I loved working in the school setting, but over time, my passion for helping individuals and families navigate life’s challenges led me in a new direction and ultimately to counseling.
I went on to earn my master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University. My approach to therapy is client-centered and collaborative. I want counseling to be a safe and compassionate space where you feel heard, valued, and supported as you work toward personal growth and healing.
In my work with clients, I use evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples, and Internal Family Systems (IFS). These approaches can help with anxiety, depression, trauma, emotional regulation, and relationship challenges. I also incorporate Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) when appropriate to help clients process past experiences and reduce distress.
My faith in Christ is the foundation of my life and my practice. I believe true healing and identity are found in Him, and I’m happy to integrate a biblical worldview into sessions upon request. It is a joy and an honor to walk alongside clients in their healing journey, offering support, encouragement, and practical tools to help them move forward with purpose and hope.
A Note on My Licensure
MY PROFESSIONAL CREDENTIALS
I am registered with the state of Florida as a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern, which means I am in the supervised practice phase of my licensure journey, the final step before full independent licensure in Florida.
During this period, I work under the clinical supervision of Rebecca Maxwell, a licensed clinician with Jacksonville Counseling Services. Rebecca provides ongoing oversight of my clinical work to help ensure the care I provide meets professional and ethical standards. This added layer of supervision also means you have the experience and perspective of two clinicians invested in your care.
This is a standard and required part of the licensure process in Florida. Your sessions remain private, your therapeutic relationship is with me, and the care you receive is professional, thoughtful, and centered on your individual needs.
If you have any questions about what this means for your treatment, I’m happy to talk through it during a free consultation.
